June 21, 2014: Urban Ore on Summer Solstice

Part 3 of my photo series about exploring the concept of "Home". This session at Urban Ore in Berkeley (which sells all recycled/repurposed stuff) was my more successful attempt for finding the sense of authenticity that I was seeking in home improvement stores to mirror my memories of summer outings to "Busy Beaver" in Pittsburgh. (See the prior post, a visual exploration of Home Depot, for the warm up.)
It was also Father's Day weekend, so it was a meditation on memories of shopping for, and sometimes participating in, summer home improvement projects with Dad growing up. And it was close to the 1-year anniversary of Kevin's dad's passing, the impetus for my starting my study of photography. (Kevin's dad was an AMAZING photographer, so picking up the camera was a way to feel *close* and mitigate the sense of loss a bit.)
A lot of emotion went into this set, and I think it turned out to be one of my better sets.
My photography teacher was really excited about these.
Click the thumbnails to enlarge. Great texture on these, worth the click. ;)
