June 12, 2014: Home Depot, San Leandro, California

For my second week's exploration of What is Home, I thought about how having a home would mean investing in a space, making it my own.  I thought about how having a home means needing to upgrade and repair things.  Having a Home means going to Home Depot.

I also thought about how much fun I used to have going to a home improvement store called Busy Beaver with my dad in the summer time when I was a kid.  Busy Beaver inspired me, and it was special father-daughter bonding time.

But Busy Beaver had an authenticity about it that Home Depot, as a big corporate chain store, pretends to have but falls short.  For this set of photos, my classmates encouraged me to play up the campy, commercial aspect of Home Depot.  But this is the opposite of what I wanted to capture.

So this set of photos was sort of a quick study for the following set, at Urban Ore.  Urban Ore is where I found the authenticity I was seeking.
